Around 50 vehicles have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.
Officers state they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored substance.
The liquid had been applied in the shape of a swastika, they reported.
Police then discovered multiple other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement say early analysis suggest the fluid was most likely blood from a person.
"There is still no lead as to its source; authorities are presently not aware of any injuries in relation with the incident," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were working "to solve the case" and have requested to the residents for details.
A senior political figure commented the vandalism left him stunned and had to be resolved quickly.
"This event affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he wrote on online, referring to the death of nine victims by a shooter focusing on people of immigrant origin in 2020.
