2K Hires Popular Battle Royale Lead to Rescue Troubled Action Game Project Ethos

2K Games has welcomed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to oversee the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently working on the upcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Leadership Transition Comes After Lukewarm Response

The new appointee takes on the role of studio head at the development studio following the departure of previous head Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to the game's lackluster initial reveal last fall.

On Wednesday, 2K president a key figure notified team members about this organizational change through an internal memo, which emphasized that early feedback sessions had indicated the necessity for a more defined direction.

A Pattern of Key Hires

This announcement follows a similar move taken by 2K Games in August, when they brought on an industry veteran from Blizzard to contribute to the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.

Here is the full message from the president's announcement:

Dear Team—

I understand you all just wrapped up your gathering - I hope you’re as excited as I am with the recent updates. Last time I shared you all a note, I mentioned the following: “I believe in this group. You all are some of the most motivated and innovative creators we have had the opportunity to work with - and we’re excited for that relationship to continue.”

Through your commitment and versatility, particularly over the last year, you continue to prove that.

The community feedback from last fall’s the game playtest was revealing. It confirmed the promise of a action-packed game but made clear we still had improvements to make. It revealed the requirement for a clearer identity.

It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve progressed. You embraced the criticism to consideration and revamped Project ETHOS with a renewed vision - one that’s positioned to fulfill its ambition to our fans.

The belief in Project ETHOS grows every day. To advance the outstanding development you’ve made, It is a pleasure to welcome Ben Brinkman as the new Director of the team. After some time of talks, he starts with us on the specified date.

His management and experience in the competitive gaming space is extensive, having dedicated the last 15 years developing and managing some of the most recognizable franchises in gaming, for example the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, the battle royale hit.

Please join me in receiving Ben in the coming days. We are all eager to continue seeing the development of Project ETHOS in the time to ahead.

David

Title Details and Vision

The upcoming game was announced in last year alongside a public demo. Then, 31st Union described the title as a "no-cost, 3rd-person action-packed experience and an innovative advancement on the style."

"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Customize your character in real-time to fit your unique tactics," the game's pitch states. "Take on the opponents with unique powers, challenges, and tests that shift every round. Do you safely extract with your hard-earned loot? Or go big, put it on the line, and hope your squad can achieve the highest spot? The option is in your hands."

Project Ethos lacks an official debut schedule or supported systems, but players can look forward to more updates as development advances.
